Our Mission

To provide donated medical equipment and medical supplies to needy hospitals and medical clinics in Haiti to help refurbish and renovate healthcare facilities and improve the living standards of the poorest nation in America's own "backyard".

The foundation is currently in need of financial donors to help support its mission of refurbishing hospitals and medical clinics in Haiti. We are also in need of warehouse space to store our medical equipment and medical supplies. If you are interested in donating either of these, please .

  • Feb. 21, 2012: The two 20' shipping containers filled with medical equipment and medical supplies donated by the foundation arrived in the port of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

  • Feb. 15, 2012: The two 20' shipping containers the foundation recently filled with medical equipment and supplies for GHESKIO Hospital - an HIV/AIDS clinic in Port-au-Prince, Haiti - were picked up today and are on their way to the Port of Miami.

  • Oct. 17, 2011: A big thank you to R. Lowell of Surgicorp in St. Petersburg, FL for the donation of his time, effort, and technical skill in repairing a portable autoclave (sterilizer) for the foundation. The autoclave is now ready to be donated to a hospital or medical clinic in need.

  • Oct. 2, 2011: LaTorra-Larsen Medical Foundation representatives met with Mirold Edmond from Anse-A-Galets, La Gonave, Haiti to continue discussions on how the foundation would contribute its support of the construction, furnishing, and development of a community hospital to be located in the town of Anse-a-Galets on the island of La Gonave. Mr. Edmond - who previously held a position as a House Representative of La Gonave - is working with the foundation to try to establish what would be the only hospital in La Gonave, after the previous medical facility in Anse-a-Galets closed.

  • Oct. 1, 2011: We have added an additional method of making financial donations to the foundation by creating a PayPal account. You can make financial donations either directly from your own PayPal account or from a credit or debit card using the yellow PayPal donation button (labeled "donate") located at the top of every one of our webpages.

  • July 29, 2011: Another big thank you to Dr. H. W. Boyce, M.D. of USF Health for his donation of an additional endoscope and an endoscopic ultrasound. Dr. Boyce is the Chair of Esophagology, the Director of the Center for Esophageal and Swallowing Disorders, and a Professor of Medicine and Radiology at USF Health.

  • July 28, 2011: Thank you very much to the USF Student Health Services Clinic for their donation of dozens of wrist splits and elastic bandage wraps.

  • July 20, 2011: The ability to search our website via Google Custom Search has been added. The search box is located on the right hand side of each page below the photo.

  • July 15, 2011: Dr. W. Denning, D.C. of Hazleton, PA has donated a multitude of chiropractic and physical therapy and rehabilitation equipment to the foundation including: an X-ray machine with collimator and film processor, a two panel X-ray viewbox, a specialty chiropractic bed called a Hylo, a pair of ultrasound machines that provide therapeutic ultrasound and galvanic electric stimulation, and a pair of diathermys that each provide deep heat therapy. Thank you very much to Dr. Denning for all of his help and support.

  • July 14, 2011: A special thank you to Dr. H. W. Boyce, M.D. of USF Health for his thoughtfulness and generosity in the donation of multiple endoscopes and various suppplemental endoscopic equipment including numerous esophageal stents and esophageal biopsy instruments. Dr. Boyce is the Chair of Esophagology, the Director of the Center for Esophageal and Swallowing Disorders, and a Professor of Medicine and Radiology at USF Health.

  • May 13, 2011: A newspiece on the foundation's work in Haiti that was documented by WPTV NBC 5's Tim Malloy in November 2006 was located and made available on our News & Press page.

  • May 3-4, 2011: USF Administrative Services has donated additional office furniture and equipment to the foundation. Many thanks to USF Administrative Services for their continued support.

  • Apr. 29, 2011: USF Administrative Services has donated a large volume of office furniture and equipment to the foundation. Thank you to USF Administrative Services for this donation.

  • Apr. 16, 2011: Thank you to C. Auger of Stratford, CT for the donation of a leg brace to the foundation.

  • Apr. 10, 2011: Dr. Larsen met with Mirold Edmond from Anse-A-Galets, La Gonave, Haiti to begin preliminary discussions on the construction of a community hospital in Anse-a-Galet on La Gonave. Mr. Edmond - who previously held a position as a House Representative of La Gonave - recently approached the foundation for assistance after speaking with Haitian administrators and reading about the strong work the foundation has done in Haiti over the past 25 years. The foundation is going to meet again with Mr. Edmond in the coming weeks to find out what new progress has been made to initiate the design, development, and construction of this new healthcare facility in La Gonave.

  • Apr. 1, 2011: USF Health Obstetrics and Gynecology has donated more electric exam tables as well as a large office table. Thank you to USF Health Ob-Gyn - and to all departments of USF Health that have donated to the foundation - for continuing to support our efforts.

  • Mar. 31, 2011: With Open Eyes in Charlotte, NC has donated a multitude of crutches, wrist splints, open toed walking boots, surgical gloves, and personal hygiene items. Thank you to With Open Eyes for this donation.

  • Mar. 25, 2011: The USF Health Medical Clinic has donated boxes of glucose monitors, boxes of quart-sized sharps bins, and boxes of gowns. Thank you USF Health for your continued support of the foundation.

  • Mar. 25, 2011: The Information System (IS) department at USF Health has kindly donated two large file cabinets. Many thanks to USF Health IS for this equipment.

  • Mar. 24, 2011: Thank you also to G. Krauss of Boston, MA for the kind donation of ankle-foot orthotics and other orthopedic equipment.

  • Mar. 24, 2011: Thank you to the family of K. Kuzinar of Lorain, OH for the donation of a walking boot and leg brace.

  • Mar. 14, 2011: The Student Health Services Clinic at USF has donated electric and non-electric medical exam tables, as well as office chairs (great to use in a hospital waiting room setting). Many thanks to the USF Student Health Clinic for their generosity.

  • Mar. 9, 2011: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at USF (University of South Florida) Health has donated multiple electric medical exam tables to the foundation. Thank you very much to the USF Health Ob-Gyn department for these tables.

  • Feb. 28, 2011: During the 2010 holiday season, approximately 300 school children in Las Cahobas, Haiti received a gift of school supplies from the foundation. The donated school supplies included 1000 packs of notebooks (6 notebooks/pack), 1000 packs of crayons (20 crayons/pack), 1000 packs of pencils (20 pencils/pack), and 1000 packs of ball point pens (12 pens/pack).   • Jan. 27, 2011: Thank you to R. Leviton in Newton, MA for the donation of neck braces to the foundation.

  • Jan. 24, 2011: Photos of Haiti during trips in July 2006, October 2006, November 2006, March 2007, and October 2007 added to the Photos & Videos page.

  • Jan. 19, 2011: The foundation has added sitemaps in XML and HTML for those users who prefer to navigate our site that way. It provides a simple, straightforward list of all pages on our site. The links to the sitemaps can also be found in the footer (bottom) of all foundation web pages.

  • Jan. 18, 2011: The foundation was made aware by Google that because it is a Google Grants recipient, all online donations to the foundation through Google Checkout from this point forward will not be charged a transaction fee. That means every dollar donated to the foundation through Google Checkout actually goes to the foundation. (Typically, Google charges a very minimal amount to process the online donations and those processing fees come out of what is donated.)

  • Jan. 13, 2011: The foundation has made it easier to spread the word about its medical efforts by adding the social networking "share" buttons that can be found in the upper right corner of every page.

  • Jan. 10, 2011: All foundation Google AdWords advertisements on Google are linked with our Google Checkout account (and appropriately annotated with a donation button) to enable donors to more easily contribute to the foundation's medical efforts.

  • Jan. 4, 2011: The foundation has added the ability to make financial donations online via Google Checkout; the donation button can be found at the top of every page. All financial donations to the foundation go directly towards the purchase of medical equipment and supplies that are in turn used directly for patient care.

  • December 2010:  Videos of Ofatma Hospital have been posted to the Photos & Videos page. Be sure to click on "Next Page" in the multimedia player to see the videos. Both videos are in Creole, but one has English subtitles, while the other does not.

  • December 2010:  Photographs of our most recent trip to Haiti from Sept. 8-13, 2010 have been posted to the Photos & Videos page. Included in the set of pictures will be images of Port-au-Prince and its residents, Ofatma Hospital, and other neighboring locales near Port-au-Prince.

  • November 2010:  A special thank you to Robin Photo Design in Pinellas Park, FL for their talent, effort, and generosity in helping the foundation with its logo.

  • November 2010:  A news bar containing relevant news on Haiti has been created and added to the bottom of all pages. We hope this will help shed light on the difficult medical conditions in Haiti.

  • November 2010:  The foundation has been awarded a Google Grant for free Google AdWords advertising. This means the foundation's ads are displayed alongside related search results on Google.com, and when people click on the ad, they are taken to the foundation's donations page. The Google Grant award is helping the foundation spread its message to the public and inform, engage, and connect with its supporters. Thank you to Google for this award.

  • October 2010:  Tampa General Hospital donated roughly 15 pallets of medical supplies that required a 26 foot truck to move. A big thank you to Tampa General for this donation.

  • September 2010:  While in Haiti, Dr. Larsen accepted a plaque on behalf of the foundation from Ofatma Hospital CEO Charles Jean-Jacques for the countless years of effort and millions of dollars in medical equipment, medical supplies, office equipment, and even construction material that the foundation has donated to Ofatma.
